Myrna Olaya, PhD, LPC is a bilingual (English/Spanish) therapist providing therapy for couples, individuals, and families, with a specialization in bicultural and intercultural relationships and trauma recovery for women.
Her clinical approach is integrative and tailored to each client's goals, drawing on solution focused narrative therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels 1 & 2), and Gestalt and relational approaches. Dr. Olaya is also EMDR trained for trauma processing. Much of her work centers on helping women heal from trauma and helping couples bridging two cultures build relationships where both partners feel seen and understood.
Clients often describe Dr. Olaya as warm, authentic, and genuinely herself in the room. She believes therapy works best when it feels human, so alongside the deep work, there's room for laughter, honesty, and moments of real connection. Whether she's sitting with a couple in conflict or processing painful experiences, she leads with curiosity and compassion, meeting each person as a whole human being rather than a set of problems to solve.
Beyond the therapy room, Dr. Olaya is a passionate speaker and advocate. She has presented at the Conference on Crimes Against Women and previously worked in the nonprofit sector supporting survivors of human trafficking, experiences that deepened her commitment to trauma-informed care. She practices independently in Texas and bills insurance under her own license.
Education, licensure, and clinical training that inform Myrna's work.
Dr. Olaya received her master's degree in Counseling from the University of Arkansas before completing her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Wesleyan University, where her passion for working with bicultural couples took shape. Her doctoral research examined relationship satisfaction in bicultural couples, exploring how partners navigate the intersection of culture, identity, and connection, work that continues to inform her clinical practice today.
Dr. Olaya is currently accepting new clients and offers both in-person sessions at the DTA Dallas office and telehealth across Texas. To schedule with Dr. Olaya, please email molaya@DTAcare.com or request her by name in the Contact Us form.
